Lengthy newb battery post

im about 2 months in worth of "research". i have a basic understanding of the simplest of knowledge. what the mAh represents and c#.
i recently found a decent, or what i felt comfortable with affording, deal for what i got based on my subpar entry level knowledge. Spektrum smart RC S1200 DC lipo balance charger, a power supply and 2 Spektrum RC 2S 100C Smart LiPo Shorty (7.4V/5000mAh).
leave it alone until first track day and charge both batteries in the am until the screen gave me the complete screen and off i go. I was having several issues because of the bashed ESC(another post) and i noticed it started slowing and acting funny so i choked it up to the battery and swapped it out and placed the "Drained" battery to charge. i believe the read out said about 25%. back on the track with a full charged one. ran about 5 minutes on and off due to the issues so i ended the day early.
i have been reading about discharging and storage. the manual just basically tells what buttons to press to make it charge, dis and store.. but i feel like there should be info in the manual. 1st i set the full one on discharge because it might several weeks until i can get back out there. it went to discharge mode and said it was 59% completion. i kept checking and it appears nothing was happening. nearly 2 hours it was still at 59%. i needed to leave the house so i decided to unplug it all and leave it alone.
But i noticed there is a lot of information given to me on the screen that idk what any of it means and i cannot for the life of me find a concise description of what i need to look for and monitor on the read out to make sure everything is working as it should. For someone as new as i am and im just going to be practicing on the weekends with my son, are all the settings worth worrying about yet? or should we just set it and forget it and run the car. We will eventually start racing once we can get a few solid laps without crashing lol.

I have no experience with that charger, but I'd guess that the 59% is the capacity of the energy remaining in the battery, not the progress on getting the battery to storage. Lipo batteries don't like being kept at full charge or below nominal voltage for extended periods of time. They like to be around 50% capacity if not being used weekly.

its percentage of full charge(which is what you suggested). so leaving it at in the middle between 40-60 should be ok for a few weeks (like 2-4)?
im sure the charger would only discharge to a safe percentage... how long would this typically take? typically as in any other type of charger, just so i have some extra insight

The Smarts is supposed to take all the guess work out of the settings. This charger is manufactured by ISDT and I have a couple of their chargers. You should only have to select or storage and Start.
If the cell voltage is between 3.75 and 3.85v, that's fine for storage. You can see that by plugging in the balance lead and looking at the cell voltages. Storage voltage is good for a few days to months.
The max discharge current is 3A, which means if you took a fully charged 5000mah battery, it should only take about an hour to discharge down to storage voltage. It might take a little longer because the charger adjusts the discharge current lower at the target voltage so you end up with a battery at that voltage
