Questions?? Tekin LEDs 2, 3, 4, 5 code?

Hey all,

Just got a new Tekin RS Gen3 with a Gen4 sensored brushless motor and am having no luck getting throttle to work. When I power it on, I get steering from my transmitter but no throttle. The LEDs flash in order, 2 -> 3 -> 4 -> 5 and repeats. I can't seem to find this documented anywhere in the manual or online ... anybody have any ideas? (Reached out to both Tekin and the hobby shop but no response from either yet). Thanks!

No code like this one listed on their ESC code site. Double check for correct lights. Check your set-up manual that came with the ESC, Will show all error codes there.

Read the manual front to back several times and there's no mention of this LED condition. Also checked www (dot) teamtekin (dot) com/esc_codes.html. The "FAN REVERSE POLARITY" condition there is the closest thing, but that sequence is 6, 5, 4, 3 and I'm definitely seeing 2, 3, 4, 5. Also no fan for me.

It's actually a very old Airtronics 3 channel FM receiver (92736) with a Caliber 3PS transmitter. I'm not wondering if the throttle signal from the old receiver isn't compatible with the new ESC? Haven't been able to find mention of compatibility/incompatibility either, though ..

I should also note that the speed control doesn't respond to any button presses when cycling the LEDs (can't go into radio calibration or even do a factory reset). If I unplugged the receiver, I get the appropriate error code for no receiver and am able to do a factory reset that way, however.

I went looking but can't find info on the rx servo connection. I think somewhere near when this radio was made airtronics/sanwa changed their servo plug wiring sequence. Is your rx outputting the signals in the order the tekin esc is expecting -, +, Signal or black, red, white?

Found an article you that may help see if this is the problem. http://jacobwatson.com/images/dads%2...connectors.pdf There definitely was a change to airtronics servo connections near 2005 and your radio seems to predate this change.

Did you follow all of the set-up steps 100%?

1. Make sure your radio and receiver have binded correctly. <important>
2. Do a factory reset on the esc. <turn on the esc and then hold both buttons down for 3-5 seconds> It will chime when completed.
3. Follow the steps to calibrate the radio to your esc. <important to have the brake and throttle settings at 100%>. 3 steps to calibrate is all that is needed.
4. I will turn off the esc and then turn it back and am ready to go (no a needed step but this is how I do it).

There are some trouble shooting notes in the instructions.. (check that you had any trims EPA/Dual rate set to the middle. Or try reversing the throttle channel in the radio... ??

When all else fails, call Tekin support. Ray is very patient and can walk you thru any problem. (note that Mondays are usually busy from all of the weekend warriors asking for help)

Really guy! you're using old Caliber 3PS! It probably cuz no binding of TX &RX. Just make sure you have correct for RX & TX crystals. Call or email Randy at Tekins, even is the weekend, he'll answer you question by email. Error you see havent been seen along time cuz you're using an FM radio. Its not reading the ESC.

Yeah, thanks for that digging but I had already rewired the connection from the ESC to have black(-) in the middle. The steering servo wouldn't be getting power otherwise

Lol, yessir! Still had the old Tekin G-10 in there with a Reedy Tri-Sonic brushed motor (which worked, btw!) but I thought I would upgrade to a brushless setup. So the crystals are still good ... I'm just thinking now that maybe the output from the receiver for the throttle control isn't within the bounds that the ESC is expecting? Still waiting to hear back from Tekin support, though.
