Brushless not China

There isn't a good way to manufacture brushless motors affordably outside of China. We make one motor in the US but it is a $2600 motor made for military/aviation use. If we could get materials affordably we could build hobby motors in America for not much more, but China has pretty high export taxes on the neodymium used to make the magnets used in brushless motors. They also have 90% of the world's capacity to mine it. Russia has one low capacity mine and refuses to export it. China has two mines and charges a ton of export fees for the raw material but has no fees on the export of finished products. Mexico is supposed to open a mine in a few years, but it will be a few years after it opens before they are producing enough volume to be a reliable source. The US had a mine in California for many years, but it was facing financial difficulties when their yield dropped and it had to close. Once the Mexico mine opens and is proven to be a good supplier, we have intentions of producing some of our motors in the US.
All of our motors are 100% Designed in Kansas and our engineers are heavily involved in the manufacturing process. We send engineers to China on a regular basis to make sure everything is done to our standards and often drop in unannounced to avoid them covering up anything not up to our standards.

That part is what most people don't understand and it drives me nuts. China makes what you force them to make. If you pay them to make low quality crap and/or you don't institute quality control of your own then you are likely to get crap.
