Is anyone shimming their Diff internal gears?
I had mine wear down to the point they skip. Since build Diff action has felt softer for given oil weight than other cars.
My thinking is mesh between spider and bevel gears is too loose, oil having less effect being 'squished' through a wider gap.
I have fitted some .2mm shims behind each spider and I think Diff will last a race day but new set on the way will be shimmed .1=.15mm from the start.

I do shim my diffs, with the TB gear diffs I use TRF red orings and 0.2 or 0.3mm shims below each of the large bevel gears. The shim thickness will vary for each diff case, you want least play on the outdrive while allowing the diff to spin free, so it is good to do dry fitting before filling with oil.

Are you using plastic gears? I would recommend swapping them out for the steel (#54540) as the TB diff gears are quite small and may have problems with durability.

You can read more about the TB diffs from post 402 on this thread, and also for general diff shimming from post 4452 in the TRF419 Thread.

Yes, sure.
I just suddenly to discover it from RCMART (i always buy different parts from this R/C web shop in HK)
Honestly, this price is very attractive for all cuz its lower than the product announce (Disclaimer, I'm not a staff from this shop)
I think its a good chance for everybody who lovely or haven't Tamiya TB EVO 7 users.

Wow. that is pretty slick.
I had blown diff last weekend for race day and was considering running front drive.
Plan was run Short with Servo ahead of battery then ESC in front of motor in A layout.
But this takes it to a whole other level. Just goes to show versatility of the Evo 7 design.

At least only 40g lol. Some cars like 100+ these days...
If you are already balanced L/R then under steering rack is good spot. Keeps close to center and is upfront

Hi TB EVO7 owners, I have just ordered one of these after a 30 year RC holiday.

I am wondering if anybody has tried all three motor positions and which configuration you prefer? I am tempted to go with the shorty set up because it works better with my OCD's. LOL

Thanks in advance for any responses.

I have only run A (front Motor) setup so far. On black carpet it works good. I am planning on trying B (rear Motor) but no plans for C (shorty) for me.
Would have to add much weight for VTA

Default Shims

Just building my car after reading through this thread. Quick question. Does the kit contain extra shims? Building as per spec I probably have close to 3/4 of a mm play in the front gearbox input shaft.

I had to buy shims to take out most of the play.

You might end up with a few extras but what I recommend is to get some 0.05mm thick 5mm shims to fine tune the gear mesh, such as those from Yokomo ZC-S50S, as sometimes +/- 0.1mm difference means being too tight or too much play.
