I have a stack of bodies.. they all can work well if I adapt or change setup. Sometimes a different layout produces different results as well. Or even driving styles. My current lineup includes:
RTEK
Agata
ZR1
MXstang
Venom
and I have a J zero to paint.
Guess what? They all work.. just handle differently. I’m not saying everyone needs 100 bodies at any time, I just wanted to find out for myself.
On the last last layout I found I liked the ZR1 for qualifying and the RTEK for the mains. If my MXstang didn’t weigh 20g more than the other bodies, I might have run that for the weekend. (I just didn’t want to re balance my car)
The comment about everyone running what the fast guy does has some merit to it, I’ve fallen into it myself.. It will be interesting to see if Mcallister starts selling a bunch of DTM bodies to the Ohio area. Ha

The pzero felt the fastest out of all of the bodies I’ve run. I could never get the Ford gt to hook up in the back. The rtek is good everywhere, not excellent but good.

ran the Zoo body today track was a little lose from the previous race but I was able to lay some really fast laps with this body. In all honesty this Zoo body feels almost identical to the Venom . I let a fellow racer use my Venom body so I couldn’t run them back to back .

Ok, so.. I'm bored. It's time to break USGT.
My MST TCR is on my dining room table, ready for surgery. I ordered a decent 21.5 motor, I have a itty bitty teeny weenie little Tekin esc-y. I have a 2600mah 110c super shorty battery. I have a 9 gram receiver. And I have a decent shorty steering servo. I think... I can get the car, ready to run, minus body under 800g. The bare chassis is 337 grams... And if I tape the battery on, another 15 grams of screws and battery bracketry can be lost.
Is that light enough? Who knows. But we'll find out. "The car" I've pretty well got settled. What i'm really hear to ask about, is bodies. What should I run on this thing? I looked at the Zoodiac, but I fear it might not clear the motor cage. I traditionally run a Nissan GT-R, as they're quite roomy under the nose. But the bodies I have are also somewhat heavy. What do you suggest? I ... vaguely like the idea of a FWD car, but i'm not bound to it. And with how light the car is, CG is an issue.

They did away with the open body for FWD. Now they require you to run a FWD body. Your already hamstrung with 2 less tires. Now they wanted to kick you in the nuts and saddle you with a cardboard box of a body.

Not all FWD cars are hatchbacks. I'm sure there's a half decent Celica body out there somewhere for example.

Those of you that are pissed about the requirement to run a FWD body on a FWD chassis are the whole reason for the requirement in first place.
Why would you get a FWD chassis only to run a Lambo, or Ford GT, or P-Zero body on it? You want to run those bodies, that’s cool, run them the way the class was intended. You want to run a FWD, run them with the bodies that are intended. And yes I do hope they can come up with a more diverse selection of bodies other than hatchbacks for FWD, but please don’t turn it into what is happening on the GT side. HPI made some great FWD bodies that are unicorns now, maybe bring those back.
Or maybe, just maybe, “we” should stop trying to drive a FWD like a 4wd TC. If people would just take the time to learn a different set up technique, change up driving style a bit, and realize a FWD will NEVER be as fast as an equivalent 4WD, the genre will actually grow.
Honestly, even if you could get a FWD to under 1000g ready to go, ran a J-Zero body, and were able to get the same lap times as your 4wd USGT car, what would be the point?
