So I am new to the electric stuff have manly used gas/nitro but getting into electric stuff. My question is about the r10.1 I was reading the specs and it says it makes around 170amps continuously and that you only use 2s batterys. Now I have the castle creations 8th sidewinder on my emaxx and there specs say 150amps continuously and I'm assuming that's on 6s the maxx it can handle. What I'm wondering how dose the r10.1 make so much power on a 2s battery or dose it. I'm building a yeti xl and a traxxas udr from scratch and I'm to the point where I need a esc. Not sure if it's better to spend the 200 something on the r10.1 and get 2s batterys or just get the hobbywing rx8 and 6s batteries. Buy the way I'm just back yard bashing but I do like the better quality stuff.

I would go with the hobbywing to have more options. 6s would be insanely quick and probably uncontrollable. I started on 2s and just the jump to 3s was highly noticeable. 2s is just slow!! But really i wouldnt just jump to 6s right away. I would start at 3s or 4s and see how that does and if you still need more then move up. It will be super powerful with either one. The more lipo cells you go with, the lower the Kv motor you will need to avoid burning up your hardware. And make sure the motor is also capable of handling the amount of cells youre trying to push. What are you using it in?

FYI, the above is the area of the forum for the electrical components of RC cars. That's the place for "Discussion of Radios, Receivers, Servos, Chargers, Speed controls, and More." You may get a larger number of responses there.

Yeah never done this thread thing. I'm putting it in a traxxas udr. I have a t-maxx and a redcat mt v3. I use a 8th sidewinder in my emaxx. Tried 2-2s in that and needed more so I just got 2 of spektrums new smart batteries 3s 5000mah

You asked about 170 amps on 2 cell.. well yes it can be done. The motor is what needs the amps. the esc just needs a battery that will last thru its burst....Kv per volt means speed......so 150 amp with a 6 cell.ok that mean a rough ride .As in many wrecks..
