Default Tamiya guys! TB04R, Pro o or basic?

Hi guys. Im into rc racing (touring) since 2002 but i've never run a Tamiya. Now I race with X-ray, but for some reasons, I'm attracted by drive shaft cars.
So, I'm gonna buy a Tb04, just for fun. I have two options:
1 - Used (kinda new) TB04 Pro for 165€ (190$)
2 - Brand new TB04 basic version for 100€ (114$)
But! I have a old Tamiya TRF Dumpers set in my bag (7-8 years ago, but never used)

So: I need your advice. In my place, would you buy the pro version or the basic one, since I already have the dumpers set?

Do I have to consider the R version? (very hard to find it in sale/trade online market, btw...)

Thanks!

Jake

I've a TB04R. It has the most useful hop ups on board, you buy later with a Pro kit.

Ebay has still some NIB kits for around 300$.

TB04R is great but a bit heavy. With Exo Six its very good race machine. For fun it would be OK.

Only problem (weak point) with TB04 is the center gear box. Carbon reinforced miter gears or the DB01 aluminum ones are recommended.

having both, i recommend the basic. it's good enough and the plastic chassis seems to give additional grip over the cf of the R

Sadly Mike stop making tb04 parts pack, otherwise R will be the perfect condidate for the conversion.

The TB05 pro has just been released. I would get that. It’s a big jump from the 04.

Evo six is cheap now so it might be good choice as well.

Threadstarter want' s a TB04 just for fun. I think it will be the typical parking lot basher. A graphite chassis might be a bit too much...
