The Traxxas Unlimited Desert Racer Will Blow Your Mind - RC Car Action
You can see it in this article.
Basically they have a planetary gear set between the drive shaft and in the pinion to add extra gear reduction at the axle. This is to reduce torque twist from the rear axle. It is actually a legitimate innovation...unlike their other patents.
I might finally buy a Traxxas product because of this truck. But first I will wait and see how they hold up in the hands of others. I already see several things that give me pause. For starters plastic 17mm wheel hexes? Really?? Not a big deal in the scheme of things, but that is a pretty basic thing these days for ~1/8 RCs, especially on 6S.
Here's to hoping they make a roller/kit without electronics....or I could just get a Yeti XL Kit....

Do you understand how patents work?
I'm looking for a place to preorder this truck. Does anybody know where to get them besides RPP?

The anti-Traxxas trolls like yourself are getting out of hand. If you actually read anything about this truck you'd see there's way more than a solid axle in the back.

How does making an observation make me an anti-Traxxas troll? Just because I'm not a Traxxas fanboy doesn't mean I'm anti traxxas. If you read any of the Hobbico bankruptcy threads you would have seen I defended Traxxas as not being at fault in those.

Your comment was very troll like. The patent is not on a solid rear axle. It's on the internals that are quite unique. They are designed to eliminate torque twist.

Personally I would love to see these actually raced. The dimensions between the Losi and traxxas aren't too far off. One thing personally I think would have been cool is if this had an OBA system on it, scaled up for the size. Be cool to see these actually ROARING around the track. That to me is the thing that nitro brings to the table, that rumble, and this is coming from someone who is pretty much an electric guy. (will be trying nitro again, glutten for punishment I guess lol)

I like the way this truck looks and moves. The two extra tires on the back keep the rear end from bouncing around.
I'm a little concerned about the plastic parts on a truck this size but we'll find out how they hold up. I'm sure there'll be aluminum upgrades from multiple companies.
The Super Baja Rey is bigger than the UDT.
SBR:
Weight - 19.45 Lbs
Wheelbase - 495mm
Width - 396mm
UDT:
Weight - 13.4 Lbs
Wheelbase - 420mm
Width - 345mm

The kraken looks like a sweet addition but it’s nice to have these light weight electric large scales coming straight from manufacturers. Sometimes I don’t feel like dragging a giant 40lb RC around just to get in a quick 15min run in.
I can’t wait to see how this truck drives with that new rear end.
