Check the new shell for the KC! By Aerox, looks very KF2.

I used the following setup to start with on astro and I think it is a really conservative place to start from that is easy to drive and will get you close on most surfaces:

Schumacher Cougar KC - Tom Yardy - BRCA Nationals - Telford - 29-30.04.2017

If your track is smooth/indoor use the kit 1.6mm hole pistons in the rear. It it is bumpy then you can drill them to 1.7 like Tom did.

I don't know about you but I am fairly new to turf and I have found that all astro is not created equal. The best tire selection can vary quite a bit depending on the exact "species" of astro you are running on. So make 100% sure you know the tire situation at your track.

@motorcitymatt, the new layshaft has been true and shows no sign of wobble. Agreed about the 'species' of astro. Just raced at Thornhill and their astro was like a closed loop velcro (the fluffy part) very odd, but drove very well.

Thanks for following up about the layshaft. I had one sitting around from a KF2 and it looks fine. Not sure if they had a widespread issue with them or if it was just a couple kits here and there. Who knows. Just glad to see them take care of it.

That's really interesting about the astro at Thornhill. Here at Larry's the astro is more like the other side of the velcro (the hard hook side). In fact, it is very similar to a 3m Scotchbrite pad. It will eat a set of yellow compound mini Darts in one heat. I run blue compound in the rear and even then they are only good for about 2 race days max.

Oh, that's a cool track! The plastic is like the hooks but the 'pattern' is like the loops (is, it's not like blades of grass) I'd hate to do a sliding fall on it, it would remove skin!My yellow darts didn't last too long, but the car got better as the back end came around in turns easier. Love this car.

I run on a pretty smooth high bite indoor clay track and small to medium sized jumps. I been running 17.5 right now but will switch back and forth to mod some as well. Better to get the KD version or the KC version buggy? I would think for stock racing the KD has less moving parts gear wise vs the KC has some extra gears that would slow it some in stock racing vs some of the other cars running stock. Seems like the KC would be a little more versatile with all the optional motor positions.

I can only post about our local stock scene. Drag and building the most lightweight car possible never wins here. The guy that wins stock consistently week in and week out runs a box stock Losi. Even the turnbuckles are stock. Its driver and setup.... I ran stock with my KC on carpet against all the lightweight, plastic pinion built cars and was right there. Finished 2nd charging at my std 5 amps with my 1570g carpet car...

Just wanted to share some pictures with you guys I have found around the web of Orlowkski's KC he is running at the Worlds in China going on right now. Looks like he has it dialed in because he is the top seed after controlled practice. Looks like a pretty much stock KC with some option parts here and there. I am guessing the white body is about visibility on the track (all white is not his usual paint scheme). The last couple rounds of practice were run under flood lights so maybe they were anticipating it would be harder to see the car out there.

I know we used to do that back in the MARS series days back in Michigan. At its height it would get 300 entries and mod always was last and under the lights. Always needed a night time body for that.
