You might need them both depending on which ESC you have. I recently had to sort this all out. Hobbywing ESC come in "versions" V1, V2, V3 but it is not always clear what version an ESC is. Some of them say in the info and some don't.
The bottom line is that the Multifuction LCD box works with the newer ESC's but not the older V1 ones. The LED will work with those.
before getting an RC truck in October, I had a V3 Hobbywing ESC on an Align 550 Helicopter. The LCD box works fine with that both standalone and with PC software.
The ESC that came with by Tower Hobbies Cutback burned out so I bought a WP-80A. I found that I could program that ESC with the LCD box but only with the PC software. It would not work in "standalone mode" with that ESC. So I bought an LED program card. Not the one on Amain but this one

because the settings sticker seemed to match my WP80. That LED box worked fine with the WP80.
Later, Tower sent me a new ESC on warranty. What they sent was an ARRMA BLX 85. It came with no instructions and on programmer. I tried both my LCD box and the LED "card". The LED card worked fine but the number of settings did not match the sticker on the box. It only had five setting. I eventually dug up some instructions for the BLX and the numbers on the LED box matched the chart in the instructions.
I know that is a long story but the situation was actually pretty confusing. Depending on which ESC's you have, you may need both. If you only have the newest V3 type, then the LCD is the way to go. If you have older or rebranded ESC's you may need the LED card.
