Charts for Quick reference:

1) put inner bearing in hub
2) slide large shim over axle all the way up to the back of the axle
3) slide axle/bone into hub carrier
4) slide small shim onto axle through hub carrier
5) push outter bearing into hub carrier

using that i'm able to put my normal male silverback gorilla wheel nut tightening job and there's no binding. in the pictures that come with the shims (the pic socket posted) it seems like they want you to slide both shims onto the axle before sliding the axle into the hub carrier and like i said, that doesn't work.

I've traditionally done the diff screw head on the left side (driver's side), but have since switched to the Right side (passenger side) regardless of transmission type (3 gear RM vs 3 gear MM and 4 gear MM).

Kdub (Kurt Wenger, former AE designer) had this to say on the matter:

The right rear is the way the AE manuals state (or used to state). It really shouldn't matter since you go around turns both left and right.

I'm guessing his comment had a bit of sarcasm on it

It was mostly sarcasm. I actually don't own a B6 yet as I recently returned after a 3 year break and am very happy with my b5m and still competitive with it and just recently was given a laydown trans on a chassis so will be playing with that soon.

it is little bit disappointing that AE has become the flavor of the month like Xray.
B4 was a great plat form for forever

AE is far from Xray....and times changed, rear motor has nothing compared to mid motor on 99% of the tracks these days

Times sure have changed for sure. Mid motor feels like I have to be precise like a go kart versus my old b4 felt like I could drive it like a dirt bike

Flavor of the month?

I have built and raced b4.2 FT, OG B5M (first batch), B5M FL and, now, a B6D. Over those four AE race builds every version has improved over the previous car whether it be the molds, materials, hardware, whatever. Friends have asked me should they get the B6D. I honestly answer that, if the B6D doesn't improve their lap times, they will none-the-less enjoy the build, appreciate the thought behind the engineering, and will love how much easier the car is to service track side. So, sign me up for the monthly club.

B6.1D - it will come. Prediction - when Team AE starts winning big events with "their" version of the car, we will see the B6D laydown kit the way it should be released. Too many variables have to be worked out in the meantime.

For now, I race with my B6D. And will try to make laydown work on my dirt track

I appreciate the quality, engineering that has gone into this vehicle. What I meant is the other platforms had longer runs than the B5m to the 6d. I've had a AE car since 1987. Still have it. Still race it. So please don't think I'm a hater.

The problem for all of the manufacturers is that they've done such a great job making these cars so much more durable that they aren't selling parts like they use to. That's the bottom line. I also think technology is pushing things forward a little faster. I loved my B4's but they were big piles of crap compared to the B5s and the B6s are looking pretty good.

i'm having an issue with my laydown transmission .. It's hard to explain but with no motor or anything I feel like it doesn't not rotate smoothly .. I thought at first it was how I put the diff in. I'm running a ball diff and currently have the head the opposite way. The instructions call for the head to be in the direction of the spur but looking at the B5M 3 gear instructions .. it calls for the head the opposite way. Is there a reason why you'd do it differently with the laydown?

The head of the thrust bolt should always be on the right side of the car...

If that's the case why would they specifically state in the instruction manual? A direct quote from the manual Bag 11-14 step 5: "Install the Diff with the head of the Diff Thrust Bolt (#6573) facing the side with the spur gear."

Make sure you used the correct length screws for the transmission through the chassis. Think its meant to be 8mm. I had 1 10mm by accident and it hit the diff!
