I know the CG is lower. Yesterday when AE released the new B6 rear tower that allows b5m rear shocks to be used I got the impression there is another benefit to the b5m shocks for bumpy tracks besides higher CG. They stated as answer to my Q that the B5m shocks have more volume as if that is a benefit. What benefit does more volume have besides using up more shock fluid?

We're still not clear on the impact of more volume for the same droop and shock throw.
Maifield has played with it a TON on the 22 2.0, as well as in 1.8th scale. I haven't been given a definitive answer on what it helps.
Fluid displacement and volume are two unknowns that if I had time, would love to collect more data on.

Would be running 17.5 with the lay down trans. Just want to make sure I get the correct part when they become available. Thanks again for all the help!!

Sure, more droop and travel can be calculated.

For Carpet and high bite we run a higher spring rate in the rear to assist with turning and jumping. To loose and your ass hits the jump and your nose is pointing straight down. And when you land you end up breaking things due to your ride height being so low.

Yes, but you can change spring rates with either 31 or 27.5. Having a shorter shock body (27.5 vs 31mm) isn't going to limit nor increase your spring choices.

I can see a few positives of this taller tower,
1-can use your rear FOX shocks from your B5m
2-will make it easier for someone to fit a B6 gearbox to a B5m
3-longer bodies mean piston doesn't enter the air pocket in top of shock.
