When Lipo first came out we discussed how the shape/size flexibility could effect car design/performance. First, short packs changed the weight/balance equation, now we see where it can go. Imagine a 2wd stock buggy running @ 1350g? Or a modified buggy running even lighter with a 380 size motor, instead of a 540?
What about the same combination changing the layout possibilities of 4wd buggies?

My imagine? "stock" cars of not long ago raced at this weight, and lighter.
It isn't hard to get a B5M down to this weight right now with current products. It isn't, and wasn't ever about being light. It's about carrying speed, and having grip available to do it.

Light weight is always faster. If weight makes a car faster than something is wrong with it. Adding weight takes away grip, not add it. This is why no Motorsport has a maximum weight, only a minimum weight.

Tried it a while ago on my old photon. I liked it. Beware, the Hobbyking battery requires 5mm plugs.
Edit: since you mention 2wd buggy with a 380, I'll add a picture of my weird Mid B3. Weight is 865g without body or wheels.

I have been playing with the possibilities that arise as a result of using brushless and smaller lipos, specifically the LRP super shorty. The original concept was to centralise the mass and as a result I have gotten a ridiculously light car that handles VERY well. I took the car that I designed for low traction dirt and it actually works fairly well on carpet. I am currently building a purpose build carpet car with very low center of gravity. Had it down to 1365g but I am sorting out some servo issues that will take some time.

Really like the idea of a 380 motor because I am building a custom motor plate / shock tower for my new carpet car. That would make the car insanely light!!!! With a little work I could easily get the car down to 1200g or less, saving almost 100g just on the motor.
P.S. And yes, I'm running the lightest rear springs!
