Whenever I connect the box to my pc it just says "connecting ESC" and the pc software won't recognize it... No idea how to sort this?

It won't work on the esc either because it needs a software update apparently, so currently I can't use it for anything!

Try different cable and PC. If Windows shows that USB device has not been recognized, then the box if broken. I had one DSBR box that went that way suddenly.
But if the box works in windows, then open Orion DSBR software 2.04, choose Device - LCD program box. If it connects, you can upgrade firmware to box.
