Projects: Traxxas XO-1D (drift) and XO-1T (track)
Hey guys!
Here I am to share my latest projects: a 1/7 scale drifter and a 1/7 track-attack-beauty!
Both started as stripped-down XO-1 rollers (no body, electronics, wheels) that I bought new from ebay.
It took a while to get them ready because everything R/C is hard to get here in Brazil (taxes, customs clearance, delivery service, etc).
Most of the electronics and radio parts I already had as spares that I kept for my off-road rides and so I made better use of them by throwing into these evil twins.
First there is the XO-1D, mainly designed to be a drifter to play around the track where I use to race:
- pre-painted and trimmed Corvette body from KillerBody;
- drift tires and wheels (they come premounted) from the Exceed 1/8 MadDrift;
- Hobbywing SCT Pro ESC + SpeedPassion Cirtix slotless 2500kV motor;
- Sanwa HVS-ZS servo;
- Sanwa RX461 receiver paired to my Sanwa MT4 "blue carbon" (water transfer printing);
- Turnigy LED system;
In order to achieve a better off-set for the drift set of wheels I had to use Integy hex adapters for the Slash line of vehicles (+18mm in the rear and +12mm in the front).
I used 30k oil for the rear diff, but maybe a diff putty would be better at locking the diff, but I went for the thickest oil I had at hand.
Also switched the springs for a stiffer set (Integy 25lb rears and 22lb at the front end).
I am using 4s batteries (2 x 2s 5000mAh Zippys), and here are some pics:
Then there is the XO-1T (track version), for which I used:
- prepainted and trimmed KillerBody Alfa-Romeo 8C body;
- Hobbywing M6C combo (Xerun 150A ESC + 4274SD 1800kV motor);
- Acer DS1313 servo;
- Sanwa RX442FS receiver paired with my "regular" MT4;
- Yeah Racing LED light kit;
- front and rear stabilizer bars;
- stiffer spring set (Traxxas 3.5 rate/green on the rear end and 2.9 rate/white up front);
I have also installed a Hobbywing G3 gyro (originally intended for helis) to check if it is any help in coping with the torque-steer.
In this case I am using 6s batteries (2 x 3s Nanotechs), with stock tires and wheels (in the future I plan to experiment with Sweep's GT tire line).
In my opinion this car is a looker, specially for me as a fan of Alfa-Romeo's spectacular 8C Competizione design. It looks just like the real thing from some angles:

In the track version I have set a 50% EPA for the throttle, in order to avoid ruining such a beautiful body in these first runs:

seriously, that's pretty sick, impressive, and expensive as hell. how did you get the drift tires for the xo-1 and the bodies?

But the "expensive as hell" adjective only applies due to import costs for us Brazilians (delivery costs + 60% taxes - minimum).
I think in the US it wouldn't be scary expensive, since both of them started as rollers (USD270 each on ebay), and the combos are on the cheaper side of the market.
The drift tires (they are from the Exceed MadDrift 1/8) I bought from nitroRCX: http://www.nitrorcx.com/mad-tk2013.html
They are the only 1/8 scale drift tires I could find, and even though they are not 1/7 scale, they are 105mm in diameter, pretty close to XO-1 original rubber tires at 110mm.
The bodies were also tricky to find; I got them from an ebay seller from Taiwan back in October, but he no longer carries KillerBody line.
It intrigues me a bit, this manufacturer. KillerBody stuff is stunning, but very hard to get.
The website is nice (http://www.killerbodyrc.com/page/index.aspx), their product line is highly desirable, but somehow the distribution is flawed. It's a pitty!

drift setup
Hey I saw ur setup looks good want to get my like that.. what adaptor did u use for the tires. Do u have a part number maybe... I'd appreciate it thanks

The +12mm blue ones seem to be out of stock, but they might carry them in some other color if you don't mind.
Some shims are needed to adujst the gap from the axle bearing to the hex pin in the new adapters. I have used these:

Hi cardinal, Do you know if the Traxxas Front Tyres will fit on a 1/8th Buggy Rim(80mm Diameter) or could you please measure a XO-1 Rim for me?. Thanks in Advance. Scotty
