EDIT: Sorry about that title and the extra "or"

I've a Hobbywing SCT Pro esc coupled to Xerun 4-pole 4700 motor. Both are about 1.25 years old. Sometimes, if at a dead stop, I need to physically nudge the car forward or backwards a little bit to get it to start moving.

It's happened a few times over the past few weeks and it concerns me because I just started racing and I don't want to be left dead on the starting line.

Have you experienced this before? Resolution?

Not for sure but ESC would be my guess....same thing happened to me with a brand new MMPro.

Replaced it with another and problem solved.

Is it sensored? If yes, try another sensor cable.

Do you have a spare motor or someone who could loan you one to try to see if it is the motor?

Unfortunately, no. If the sensor cable doesn't fix it, I may end up buying a new identical esc/motor combo and test the old combo on the side and keep as an emergency spare.

my money is on the ESC. my Viper VTX8 just did the exact same thing. I went with everyone's suggestion and got a new motor. including the guy on here from viper said he was sure it's not a esc issue.

well it was the ESC. $160 down the tubes on a new motor.

you're like the 3rd person in a few weeks that's had this happen.

I would also try to run without the sensor cable, if the esc can run both sensored/unsensored.

If that works and you think that the esc/motor runs smoothly enough, you can run unsensored instead of buying a new esc/motor. Maybe not optimal, but definitely a cheaper solution than buying new.

I have had Hobbywing esc/motors (Xerun 150A) that actually ran quite smooth unsensored, so smooth in fact that I didn't replace a broken sensor cable. I just ran unsensored.

I've had another Xerun 150A esc/motor combo that didn't want to run sensored, so I quit the sensor cable and once again just ran unsensored.

Maybe the hall sensors and board in the back of the motor is not working correctly. Have you opened the motor to see that the sensor circuitry in the back of the motor looks OK?

I removed the sensor cable and run it unsensored now.

Seems to be a common problem.

UPDATE

Bad ESC. I bought a new SCT Pro and it works perfectly with the same cable.

I guess I'll be contacting HobbyPartz for a warranty exchange on my ESC.
