DX2E throttle throw mod?

If I recalibrate my DX2E on my NOVAK GTB3 so that when trigger is halfway back I have full throttle, but still calibrate for full brake throw as normal, will it damage the ESC if I exceed that 1/2 point with the trigger?
I want to glue a foam block on the handle, stopping the trigger at half pull back. I assume the tx is sending a pot value to ESC, so it would see 100% at halfway, and a value of 200% if I then pulled it back to the handle (without the block there.)... I also assume the ESC sends 100% to the motor and can't give more than that, so would simply ignore the higher value and stay at 100% to motor for the rear half of the pull...(if the block wasn't there.)
I don't like the feel of the full trigger depress, so I want to glue a foam block behind trigger on the handle and calibrate so that I hit full throttle when I hit the block, but still leave the full forward range for braking... make sense?
Just wondering if that will cause any issues, electronically or otherwise. Yeah, I know, upgrade controllers, but I have what I have for now. Thanks,
