Thanks for the follow-up... I had attempted to update the firmware with hopes that would fix the issue, but unfortunately the update caused a total failure of the radio. I sent the system into Graupner USA in hopes they could repair it but they had no success. They could get the radio to turn back on with the new firmware update but it wouldn't bind with any new Rx anymore. Since the system was outside warranty, they offered me a 15% discount for a new system which I declined. I decided to buy a used X-8E from a local who was wanting to try something different and I have been very happy with the X-8E which is noticeably smoother and more connected feeling than I had with the X-8N. Oh and the steering speed feature works flawlessly on all 5 cars I'm racing with the X-8E

Just wanted to give a little update. Graupner USA seems to be alive and well. I was a little worried after tower hobbies seems to have dropped the line. However I called tech support and they returned my call within 20 minutes, used their firmware updater just now with no problem, and seem to offer / sell all their products direct. I ordered my third GR4 reciever and have been very happy with my X8N. Not as mainstream as some of the other brands but a great product, additional recievers don't cost an arm and a leg, and support is there.

Is this TX still a good buy in 2019? It's not very common in my country, however the LHS has them discounted such that it sits between the price of a new Futaba 3PV and the Sanwa MT-S. Provided they can give me support and wasranty, it seems like this TX is probably the most feature packed of the three?

I have two of them. One in my MP-777 and one in my Team Durango DNX8, both nitros and they're really awesome radios and very comfortable. Just an overall good feel.

The only bad thing is the braking part of the trigger can break off real easy if you're heavy handed. Warranty support was excellent although I was the one who broke it. I ended up putting little pieces of foam on both TXs right where the brake/trigger would just about need to stop to keep it from over extending too far.

Both radios have been perfect ever since.

Also, the antenna wire is thicker than other RXs so you'd need antenna tubing with a little larger ID.

Whenever I had trouble with the software I would delete it and re-download. It's like voodoo sometimes.

I’m breaking all of my old stuff out of retirement, and have decided to continue using my X-8N. Do any of you (if any of you are still here &#128514 have a recommendation for a decent to good and easy to get replacement battery? Thanks

This is a little smaller capacity, but should fit nicely without any modification:

Not sure if this one will fit, but take measurements of the tray to double check:
