Xray outdrives have a different ID to Tamiya, etc., so no. The tamiya dogbone end would rattle in the Xray outdrive like a pea in a can.

Another thing you'd know if you used Xray driveshafts, is they're far from crap.

You should start with 4 run it and go from there if you gear it at 3.5 you might over heat the motor and smoke it ..the xray team told you 5 cause its a safe point ....plus run a nice powerful fan on the motor to keep the temps down ...so 4 to 5 is safe to start

I have a set sitting in my spares box, they fall apart faster than your arguments.

People use the Smokem spool cups with the Tamiya DCJ's.

The general consensus, on this forum anyway, is that the xray's are crap.

Must be all that consensus that makes them crap then.

Someone should alert all those Xray professional drivers that win races they're driving with crap driveshafts, I think. You know, since they're not frequenting brilliant forums like this.

I tried all of them and I thought by far the best and longest lasting in my opinion were the xray ones.
But I HATE paying that much for them!
So I have since gone to the smokem steel outdrives with Tamiya shafts, which come with bearings and spare clips and pins for $35 a PAIR.
These seem even smoother than the xray ones and the bearing is 1mm skinnier for more steering. the benefit of running no plastic boot on the outdrive side means less maintenance too! Very happy with this setup!

Although I have gone through a couple Xray ECS shafts through the years, I wouldn't go as far as saying they are crap. Expensive yes, but when built correctly I've never had to take them apart again. Just add some anti wear grease every now and then and they last forever.

... Because that's a strong argument.

I've been running XRAY since 2001. Always used XRAY's drive shafts. Never had a problem.

I had a t2 2009 before. Aluminum outdrives wear out fast even with blades. Now on my spec r s1, I've no problems with the steel outdrives, more than a year of heavy use and no signs of outdrive wear. But I use xray blades on my S1.
