Tekin Hotwire App!!
#318
The new Hotwire 2.0 has some new hardware inside that increases connectivity to other mobile devices.
Data logging is a goal we are looking to add to the Hotwire app in time. It will likely require larger screens to view with any clarity, etc.
We said early on that the app would continue to evolve...

Hotwire 2.0 (physical dongle) -> Will work with all generations of RS/RSX/RS Pro/RX8. Will work with most versions of android. Will not require the use of an OTG adaptor.
Hotwire 1.0 (physical dongle) -> Will work with all generations of RS/RSX/RS Pro/RX8. Will work with most versions of android. Will require the use of an OTG adaptor.
Hotwire app (V2.2.0)-> Currently works with pre 4.2 Android OS (future versions will work with more versions). Currently works with Gen2 RS/RSX/RX8 (Gen1 compatibility currently being tested).
My question is in in the next rev or 2 of the app will you be able to use a 1.0 Hotwire w/ and OTG cable in combination with a version of android 4.2+? Reading thought the thread I think I am reading that Hotwire 2.0 (dongle) will fix the connection issue with android but not for older version hotwires.

This is what it sounds like as of right now.
The 2.0 hotwire will work with 4.2+ without an otg cable but it sounds like you would still need to get a micro to mini cable, if you have the standard micro connector on your tablet/cell phone.
The 1.0 hotwire will work with 4.2+(as soon as tekin updates the app) with an otg cable.
The hotwire app will work with both hotwires as soon as tekin upodates the app.
Now if you have a tablet/cell phone that doesnt have the standard micro connector than you will still need an otg cable for that particular tablet/cell phone. If you already have an otg cable, from what it sounds like, it wont hurt it at all, so if you got otg cables already you should be fine.
This is what I'm guessing intill tekin comes out with the press release.

Hey Randy was wondering if you can straighten me out and add some clarity on a few items. As I currently understand it is listed below:
Hotwire 2.0 (physical dongle) -> Will work with all generations of RS/RSX/RS Pro/RX8. Will work with most versions of android. Will not require the use of an OTG adaptor. True
Hotwire 1.0 (physical dongle) -> Will work with all generations of RS/RSX/RS Pro/RX8. Will work with most versions of android. Will require the use of an OTG adaptor. True
Hotwire app (V2.2.0)-> Currently works with pre 4.2 Android OS (future versions will work with more versions). Currently works with Gen2 RS/RSX/RX8 (Gen1 compatibility currently being tested). True

The next app update should allow for 4.2+ AOS to work as well as offer Gen1 esc support using both the Hotwire 1.0 and 2.0 versions.
The 2.0 has some added hardware inside that allows you to not NEED a OTG cable, rather it will allow for standard cable adapters to work as well.
So if you have for example a gender changer for your phone to a standard USB 2.0 female, it will work on the 2.0 Hotwire but not the 1.0.

Now I am just waiting on my mini to micro cable so I can use my droid razr with my new hotwire 2.0. And hopefully the next android update for GS4 will cure its problems with the app. I am tekin fan for all of my vehicles except for my 22-4 I went with the orion only because of there second sensor wire input made for a cleaner layout. I have tekins in my mod 22sct, 17.5 22sct, 17.5 22 2.0 and my mod mm 22 2.0. Can't wait to be able to change functions with my phone instead of a laptop. Thanks Team Tekin.

Yeah, that capability will be from the app when they update it. For now, just the older android firmware.
The 2.0 has the stuff in it so you don't need a OTG cable, just a regular mini to micro... or whatever your android uses. Seems a couple bucks cheaper too.

The Hotwire 2.0 isn't required for either of these functions.

The latest app update hasn't been posted yet. Trust me you will be given notice. IF you've already installed the beta the app store will let you know there is an update. I'd also suggest you follow one of our many social media outlets like Facebook, Twitter, Google + etc as the updates are posted there as well.
