Default ESC/lipo help

Today I was running my scte and it was all going great with my viper copperhead 5150kv motor and ESC combo. Until one of my lipos died. So I go to plug in my turning nano tech and I realized that the 'connectors' are not in the port. So i accidentally plug - into + and + into -. I didn't realize until i plugged it into my ESC. I had the body on so I couldn't tell really what happened, but there was smoke coming out. I tore off the body and I realized the the deans plug from the lipo de-soldered themselves and the wire leads on the battery were charred. So now I have a lipo with no connector with black smoke marks around the wire leads. And a ESC that I'm afraid to turn on. Should. I plug in another battery and se how it goes? Should I pitch the old lipo? ( P.S. I never turned on the ESC the smoke just happened once i plug in the battery )

i would try the esc with another battery, and connect the battery to a cell checker, or a charger and check cell voltage. I would also do a charge/discharge graph on the battery, to check if the battery appears to be "functioning" right.

Ok thanks, I have a voltmeter installed in my HW programer. I'll try to hook up another lipo, fingers crossed

sorry to hear that. the motor is probably still good though. a new (or used) esc won't set you back a ton, probably 45-75 dollars.

Very fun and ya slow dont mean they dont break. Smoking motors busted axles driveshafts twisted in half ripped bodies. Things still happen but less.

If they know you reversed polarity they are not likely to warranty it. But by all means give it a try.

I have two flavors of inboarded 2S Lipo batteries with opposite + and - negative orientation and that very much ups the risk of me reversing polarity if I am in a hurry or distracted at all... and let's face being in a hurry or distracted is almost normal for anybody.

To protect me from myself I marked my + with red tape and I also sleeved the whole lipo hard case in clear shrink wrap to keep the tape from backing off and take on any scuffs and wear from day to day use.
