Default Help with Duratrax electronics

I'm looking for some advice on troubleshooting some problems with the electronics out of a Duratrax Evader RTR that a friend of mine asked me to take a look at for him. Its his son's truck and neither of them know much about this stuff other than how to turn the truck on and how to charge a battery.

Nothing, electronically, is working on this truck. All of my RC experience is with JR and LRP electronics so, I have almost no clue what to do with the electronics on this truck as far as troubleshooting. The transmitter has fresh batteries in it, the battery on the truck is freshy charged but when the ESC and the transmitter are both turned on, none of the LEDs on the ESC light and, of course, all inputs from the transmitter (steering and throttle) are ignored. I looked replacing the receiver with the one from my truck (a LOSI XXXT with JR electronics) but the Duratrax servo and speed control have a different style of plug than my receiver.

At this point I have no idea how to diagnose whether the problem is in the ESC, the receiver or the transmitter. I'm positive that one of the three is faulty and I have very good reason to believe its the ESC but I don't want to have this friend of mine purchase a new ESC only to find that the transmitter or receiver is where the problem really lies.

Any help would be appreciated.

Your best bet is to head to your local hobby store and ask them for help. They should be able to provide you with a spare set of electronics to substitute and find which one of your units is causing the problem.
