Is it worth buying? I have heard it has poor range with the receiver that comes with it...is that true?

It works fine. I have had no range problems running indoors or outside, with both the SR300 receiver that comes with the radio, and the SR3100 micro receiver.

I liked it so much that I bought a second as a backup!

I have been using mine for almost 2 years now, have paired it with the SR300 receiver that comes with it, a 3500 micro receiver, and a couple of the OrangeRX receivers from Hobbyking without any problems.

It's a good radio for stepping up from a basic system, doesn't have too many features that can confuse people at times.

Cheers
Rob.

Do you guys think I'd be better off getting the dx3c or spending an extra $80 and getting the dx3s?

Depends, are you using it for racing or bashing? DX3C is a good quality radio for the price.. if you have the money and a serious racer i would skip both and go with R version.

Not a serious racer. I'm really a basher pretty much. Of course I'm going to make a track and race my friend, but that usually just turns into bashing with us anyways, lol
So would it be good for that?
