Default PROBLEM WITH OVERHEATING VAPOR ESC / HPI HELP PLEASE.

Hi guys.

After a few month far from my cars, i am back this time trying to solve a big problem with my HPI- Sprint 2 Flux ESC Vapor.

The problem is a huge overheating. It's like vulcano out there.

It is so strong that heats the motor cables and the batery cables too.

So, i don't know what to do so far. This car i bought from a friend that use it only 2 months.

After a little research, i find that this combo: ESC/MOTOR, is a Castle Creation combo. But at the site doesn't exist. So i have som doubts here:

1 - i buy a castle link to setup this ESC but i don't know what model use to do since the VAPOR ESC doesn't belong to the list of models;

2 - trying to reduce the heat at the ESC, i buy a fan cooler and accessories from Yeahracing. It will work?

3 - If nothing work out, what is the best choice of ESC to match with the VEKTOR motor 5900kv brushless?

Thanks

MArcelo

That combo is a HPI part number that's manufactured by Castle, that's why it doesn't show up on Castle's website, it shows up on HPI's. I'm not sure on which esc model you have to select in castle link to adjust the settings, I would try sidewinder first and see if it recognizes it, mamba max pro would be second choice.
For the heat problem, check to make sure the car rolls smooth and nothing is binding. What battery are you using? You should be using 7.2-7.4 volt batteries. Higher voltage batteries on that combo can create heat. Also, gearing can cause heat. It might be geared for too much speed so a smaller pinion or bigger spur may help. How hot is the esc getting? Can you touch the heatsink for 4 seconds before it feels like its burning? How long does it take for it to heat up when running? Adding a fan does cool things down, but if you have a bigger problem they won't help much.

Are you actually measuring the temperatures with a temperature gun? You need to. I always check by hand first (trying to get it calibrated) and can't tell you how many times I've thought "sheesh- that motor is hot!" only to find it's 150F and perfectly within tolerance.
