Tamiya mini cooper
Posting for a someone who is struggling in our informal weekly parking lot racing.
(Our rules are basically M03 or M05, silver can, kit tires and the same nimh battery, the rest is open.)
Their mini is a M05 S Spec I think. Its a chrome chassis with a few hop up metal parts and the super short cva dampers. They are struggling with this car. The rest of us closely matched, but this guy is normally a way back.
So to close up the pack we said he could choose his own tires. Seems the better tires are all 55D and this is causing ground clearance issues as there are some small stones around where we race. He can run with is now, but if he picks up a stone he is stranded.
Any suggestions on
a) getting a little extra ride height from super short cvas?
or
b) a stickier 60D tire. I am only aware of the M and S compounds of the kit tire.

Is this a speed issue or a handling (Flipping) issue?
How big are these stones that are stopping him?
Speed is fine. I don't think there was much wrong with the car, but running sticky 55D tyres the car is just too low, about 3-5mm of clearance. I have standard M05 with the same shocks and 60D tires and its just about okay.

First foray with our M03's at the track this past Sunday. Fairly dialed with help from this thread. Super fun cars, I now see what their popularity has been all about.

We've been trying forever to get a tuesday nite race going. maybe a little new blood will help.

One thing that truly separates we mini racers (besides our natural bull headed opinions) is the tracks we run on. Every time I hear someone talking about a body being more areodynamic or giving more steering, I'm ready to call bullsh*t. Then I remember half of you run on tracks where areo makes a difference. I'm jealous, but relieved. At least it's one less thing for me to worry about. At my track, with its 9 second lap times, its all suspension. Simple, right?

If you're running at WCRC, the right tire will make your life easier. For that track use the Sweep Premounts. Use the 40s up front and the 33s for rear tires. Apply cyano to the front tires-----carry the glue from the rim all the way to the edge of the tread. Don't worry about going too far as the glue will wear off to the proper place in a battery or two. Set your ride height at 4mm or less and use a rear roll bar. Jack is the best traction compound.

I have taken your suggestion in a previous post about the Sweep Premounts. We now have an assortment from 25-40's. Have a spare set of 40's for the impending CA treatment, but didn't use them at Cal. My LWB car was a little tippy if I hugged the curbing a bit too tight. Also, needed a little more rear grip in certain areas of the track. Still playing with setup. Roll bars should arrive today from TQ.
My daughter didn't have any real issues with her MWB car except for a little rear end chatter. Different story for me when I drove it. We have very similar speed, driving styles are different I guess.
Butler if that driver is having traction troubles with the 60Ds then try traction compound
Just make sure he/she puts it on correctly and uses it correctly otherwise he/she will get
frustrated real quick by the lack of control
