It seems the motor I was asking about has been removed from the HK site. Guess I will have to stick with the silver can motors.

Ran a silver can 17.5 (http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...or_2270KV.html) in a blinky pan class this winter and I had zero complaints with the motor. No problems, kept up just fine with all the other motors. Just ordered a 10.5 to try out for a dirt oval class.

I m running the 10.5 silver line in a open pro10 class.
Runs smooth and won't get hot at all.

I love my 17.5 Trackstar motor. Fast, has tons of torque, and I finally won a 17.5 spec sedan main! My buddies were commenting on how fast my car is.

I run the 10.5 silver Trackstar also in blinky Foam Touring Cars, motor is strong and reliable.

is the red can trackstar any good? I geared it in a 1/12 scale at 95mm or so but it seemed pretty doggy compared to my Revtech or D3.5... didnt get hot though,

I just got myself an 8.5 to run in a TC. The track is indoors and rather tight, short to med straight, lap times are around 10 seconds with a 21.5.

Can anyone recommend a starting point for timing and fdr for this motor. I normally run 17.5 boosted at 6.5 at this particular track.

10s laps with 21.5, thats one tiny track, start conservatively, there is a big jump in power from 17.5 to 8.5, then take it from there.

Thanks for the reply. The track flows quite well which allows fast lap times in 21.5 TC with and FDR of about 3.5. 10.5 1/12 cars are running around 8.5 seconds.

Should I start as conservative as FDR 9-10 you think, or too much?

Start maybe 8 and work down as you come to terms with the new found power and speed. I run in 10.5T spec class in Brisbane, i am about .5-1 FDR higher than most guys currently because it is rather fast and i have still not come to terms with it. Motor comes off track at about 50Deg C so i am hardly pushing it.

Have a play and see where you are at with it. You really cant go wrong.

Hi. I'm new to RC and just pulled the trigger for a Turnigy Silver (2S) 17.5 motor from HK. I would like to get recommendations on a ESC to pair with this motor. I plan to join the local F1 club. I saw some of the local set ups and no one is really using this motor (yet). I'm on a medium (sub $100) budget so the Hobbywing V3 or LRP Flow are not possible. Can anyone recommend an ESC from HK?

The battery I plan on using is a NanoTech 4200 65C shorty.

Last I noticed that the claimed max current is 28A. Having an ESC with 100A sure would be nice but does anyone run with less?

I have been using these for quite some time, i have them in 45,60 and 100A versions and they have performed flawlessly.

Add in this program cars, especially if you are running in a blinky class to show that you are using no timing, or just to make changes to all the other parameters.

RogerDaShrubber: Thank you. I just ordered the HK X-Car 45A ESC. Can't wait to try it with the Turnigy 17.5 motor. I might try to order the 60A or 100A version if they ever get restocked in the USA.

I am so glad I was able to order 1 Turnigy 17.5 (2S) motor from the USA Warehouse yesterday. I got an update email saying they had 21pcs freshly stocked. When I ordered the count was down to 17pcs. Now I checking again in less than 24 hours they are all sold out!

I just ordered that same combo as well. The X car 45a esc and the 17.5 silver can motor. It's going in my daughters car.
