Nebraska UF1 Series!!
#273
Any drivers wanting to form teams for a constructors championship, please let me know. If there is interest from enough teams, we'll have an award at the end of the series. The teams would be two primary drivers and a "test" driver that could race in place of one of the primary drivers if they were unable to attend one of the races. Both cars must run the same livery but do not have to be the same chassis.
I already have a few names on my short list for a driving test. Let me know if you're interested, I can arrange a test session.

What do you guys use to time your pit stops?
#277
Right now just a stop watch but a photo eye/timer/light system is being built for when we get going in the spring/summer. Basically will be green light on... cross the eye and the timer starts and turns on a red light... 10 sec later red light goes out and green light on designating the pits are open. We may at a later date put in another eye that will catch those that try to leave the pits early.

Sounds cool. Our pit timer does not have the optical eye, but we have found that having the human in to loop is an important part of the pit stop.

I'm a little out of the loop as to exactly what is being done because we've gone to plan B. Plan A was to use an on delay timer with a photo eye. But I would have had to buy most of it and Bernie came up with some old boards and such at work that we could use so it is obviously cheaper and will accomplish the same results.

My idea came from trying to eliminate the need for a human in the loop. Probably why we stopped using pit stops for club racing because of the lack of marshalls. UF1 series that may or may not be a problem and we may have one there anyway. But I'm curious why you've found a human in the loop is important?

Actually it would be real simple without any human interaction. You have a an optical eye or any sort of sensor once the sensor is armed the led goes from green to red for a certain amount of time and resets. If you use a msp430 it would be even cheaper. I have a guy that has all the parts needed and could do it all for free if needed. Parts included. Just let me know.
As far as I know everything is going forward and they have everything needed but the lights and a box (which we intend to build) to put everything in. Like I said I'm not horribly involved anymore since my idea is no longer being used. I just know about it because I approached Tim with the idea.
So your offer is appreciated and sounds like you could get it done and cheap. I'm just not the one to say go ahead and build it. We could always have one for Omaha and one for Lincoln though.
