RJ and I were the only ones to run in the 10 sec fast lap times. I had the 4 VTA tires on and still do.I had never run them till the USVTA nats on Friday. I had plenty of time and threw them on out of curosity and they worked for me. It's what ever works the best for the car set up and driver. I would definatly try the popular stuff, even if you have to borrow them for a few laps to see what works best for you.

If i could just drive as clean as RJ for and entire main we would have some fun for sure.

I am running an Eric Anderson Motorsports D3.5 motor and love it. That thing has tons of power all across the board. I also run EA's 70c5000mah "VTA" packs and they are more than enough to run a 21.5 for 8min. Since Cooper Motorsports sponsors the track regularly you may consider getting one of his pieces, he builds some serious power also. I think USGT would take off at OneLug if we started running it.

I think it would take off well. I had planned on talking to Cooper about a motor.

Default Legal Stators

Has there been any discussion as to which stators are legal and illegal in this class?

Is the high rpm red wire (6638) from Novak legal for use? The motor rule on the USVTA site says nothing about stators. But it does say not tuning rotors.

When the rules were first listed there were not any ROAR approved 21.5 motors so thats why the rule doesnt say ROAR approved but it should now. If you have a ROAR approved 21.5 motor/stator you would be fine. I will talk with Rob and make sure we get this cleared up on the website as ROAR does have legal 21.5 motors on their approval list.

Thanks Kevin. We have a racer at our track that has been running that stator and there was nothing in the rules preventing it from being run. With 1 race left in the season we will let him finish the year with it. But he will need a different stator or motor next year.

It might be worth double checking with Novak to see if they have sent that stator in for approval. There was halt on new approvals that ROAR had in place while they checked all the motors and this might be "legal" but just not sent in for approval.

I am thinking we will probably go to the ROAR list for 21.5 motors due to the growing number of motors out there, some of which are unknown quantities. At the time we started the class, there were only a very few motors so there was not much reason to worry about it

Just some food for thought on the motor rule change:

We have 3 D3.5 21.5 motors, 1-2 Revtech 21.5 motors and a few Trackstar motors running in the USGT class because it was an open motor. If we change the rules these will all become paper weights.

With that said I understand the problem with these new low resistance stator motors coming out and personally don't have the right or wrong answer but do know many will have to purchase new motors once again. This was the reason that VTA turnout went down for a while at many tracks because people had to buy new motors when the rules change.

Just asking all involved to really consider the impact from both sides as a final decision is made.

Thanks (Real Thanks... Not Sarcastic one :-)

What about writing the manufacturers to encourage them to submit their motors for ROAR approval? I don't know about the Trackstar, but the D3.5 and Revtech both claim to be built within ROAR specs.

I agree with your point that we can encourage more companies to submit their 21.5s to roar but with not many roar classes running 21.5s many have not done so as of yet. But rather than start a whole new debate I wanted to pose the simple question is now a good time to change the rules? Again I don't have the right or wrong answer just encouraging some additional discussion around the topic at hand.

My opinion is that announcing the change is better done sooner than later. Actually implementing the change might be best put off until later, though. For instance, if the change was announced this month and stated to go into effect 1/1/14, that would give people the rest of the year to run whatever motors they have while lobbying manufacturers to submit motors for approval or saving up for new motors.
