I bought an older (pre-used) transponder and only have one race on it i guess i better save up for a Hybrid version.
Is there a way to update the firmware/Software? so it will work with the new system?

We are only talking about firmware on the decoders, the transponders can't be upgraded or anything like that, but as long as whatever you got is AMB or MyLaps it should work fine regardless, without any need to update it.

Main issues here are concerning the MRT transponders, which won't work with the new decoders, and the latest MyLaps which won't work with the old decoders.

I was curious if there are any free scoring programs like *laps free* that works with the RC4 decoder. I do not want to upgrade and end up having to buy a newer version of software as well.

Yes Laps Free works with it, the protocol it uses for RS232 hasn't changed, it's only a problem when using ethernet which Laps Free doesn't use anyway.
