SMC LIPO BATTERY THREAD

Everyone should be spreading the word about SMC! The 7200 70C packs are phenomenal, and I don't think I will be buying anything else moving forward.
Looking forward to breaking my track record when my new packs arrive

Danny,
Are you selling these in/to the UK?
I've emailed the UK distributor listed on your website inquiring about Lipos and no reply, I also emailed SMC through the website and again no reply....
Interested in 3.7v Lipo's.
Thanks
Luke

I believe I replied to your email this week.
Working on trying to setup a SMC UK site but it's still a few months away.

All Lipo packs can swell/puff if you don't follow the proper care and handling. We have customers that never swell packs and others who swell every pack. This tells me that the way they are being used has a big impact on how the pack will hold up. Lipo are great but need to be treated properly or else they will get damaged.

One of the problems when buying packs from distributors and shops is you have no idea if the packs are old or fresh. This is one of the main reasons why we stopped selling packs to distributors and shops. There is no pack that can stay on shelf for 2 - 3 years and have good performance when finally used. So yes the customer may buy a new pack but in fact the pack is 3 years old. We can't be accountable for distributors or shops that sit on inventory for a long time.
I'm confident you will be happy with your pack. By handling sales directly we can control inventory and make sure all packs are fresh and tested before we ship them out.

I think ROAR will do the right thing and not make approvals more expensive than they already are. I don't see how this would make sense.

Thanks Danny, order number is 1014.
Do you see any difference in cycle life (or swelling) when charging at 1C vs 2C? Hard to believe 2C is almost 15A these days! Leaving these at storage voltage during the week between races is probably the right move huh? With such high capacity, storing them after a run still leaves 5000+ mah in the pack. At least in 17.5 where we're taking out less than 2000 mah after a run. That seems like too much?
Have you seen the new iCharger DUO? It's a crazy piece of equipment, and the guys are updating the software nearly every week. It can do 40A discharge, though you need a dummy load (on the second charger channel) to dissipate the energy if you do anything over 20A. It can also send the juice back into a lead acid car battery in what they call a regenerative discharge. I love this thing.

Here is the tracking number 1ZV78F280340185994
With todays lower IR packs you can charge them at higher rates with no negative effect. 2C is fine. I don't like leaving a pack with to much storage charge. I think 3.6 to 3.8 is where they should be at.
The iCharger is expensive. The PL6 from Revolectrix can charge up to 40 amps and is cheaper and super adjustable. I understand the iCharger is dual charger but most don't need to charge 2 packs at the sametime. That being said if you have the money then the iCharger is a good charger for sure.
