I do agree it is pre savage x though because the trans is not the easy access, and neither are the diff housings. I would really suggest buying the new diff housings/bulkheads while you have the truck apart. They make diff maintenance very easy, as opposed to the older ones where it's a nightmare to service the diffs.

All parts from savage 21 to the new 2013 savage x 4.6 super duper are interchangeable. It gets tricky with the flux and xl, because they have beefier parts... I.e axles, driveshafts, diffs.

Than you got a 21 with the .25 in it, very soon after the 25 was announced, the trucks were released with 4 gear.. You must have gotten a very early production 25.

I bought the truck brand new.

Check my updated reply, the Savage 25 came with a 2 gear according to hpi...and I think they know their stuff.

According to the SS 4.6 page the 25 had 2 gear diffs.

The Savage Limited Edition was the first RTR to get the 4 gear diffs. The 25 RTR never got them. It took about two years for that edition to come out.

Good to know parts are interchangeable. That was going to be my next question for sure. I do plan to get the beefier diffs for sure. Diff maintenance sucks enough without other headaches.

My flux is about 90% Phillips course thread. Savages have always been mostly Phillips drive hardware

That radio box totally threw me off the scent. All you need to do though is go to http://www.savage-central.com/ for confirmation of any misconceptions. They have Savvy's down pat.
