we used walters system for a nsw champs (some time ago now) ... the machine was running 98 (and had a very tastless screen saver
) then and did not have any computer probs... it was also using one of the early 8.1 versions... thats not to say things did not change prior to you getting it! (or did you not get the machine?)
we did get low "hits" and a few missed laps untill we minimised the length of the loop
i doubt this helps much!
the imcc has 3 machines 2x laptops 1 with 2k and 8.x.10.52(
) 1 with 98 and 7.x both work a treat and apart from an issue making html results for the nsw stste titles generally only have user error, the other is a desktop that is running the amb 20 system and 8.x.10.52...
we would buy alycat again... however ask the right people and a macintosh version of slyfox has been made (not for sale) - that probably solves 98% of all computer related problems!

We got the computer, but unfortunalty we had to rebuild it as the H/W failed and AlyCat could not register that version of the software. We are running 8.1.9 as it seems to work quite well with our transpnders. We have had the AMB side of things "tweaked" by an electronics engineer who has been able to improove the quality of the signal substancially.

Queanbyean, they are the most likely club to buy our system when we finally upgrade to the mew digital transponders
they have the laptop setup with the coloured tape on the cars and have 2 people watching the racce and pick a point when the cars cross an imaginary line on the track and push a key, time consuming and inaccurate
but if it's all you can afford then it's better than nothing

We ahve been using Alcat since we started our club.
Have had a few problems in it but they are manily due to the specifications that we ourselves put into the program preferences.
For 1.5 years now we have been counting laps with two people calling cars as they cross a line then tapping the num pad for them to register.
New clubs like ours dont even have a "Club computer"
due to the costs of getting one. Money is alwasy in short supply especially so at a brand new club trying to get off its feet but i am sure if you have problems with alycat new or old versions something can be done to fix it and what i have heard and mainly found out ourselves is that its most likely preference file related or just outdated hardware drivers.
But the guys at Alycat do their best to try to fix these problems just drop them a line.
Cheers

I ran the system last Friday had no problems with now fixed computer so there something in that. I have run the program for quite some time know and other than computer problem and handler errors it has run faultless. I am even going to try out the new 8.4 verion this Friday as long as I do some testing before hand. Like any program you have to know what it can do and if there is a problem know how to fix it. So doing your homework makes a big difference. There will be times that there is a hickup thats life just deal with it and that applies to all lapscoring programs.
