Will a tire that has been soaked in acetone over night will have any chance of the rubber propertys changed? making it perform any different?
(not talking about clay tires they are usually very effected & its obvious)

certain tires, yes. certain tires, no. I noticed the natural rubber tires gets hard or even shrinks.

I have no proof either way, but, I find it hard to believe that given the nature of acetone, that it would not affect a tire of any material.

Good question, IMHO.

I tried it with my clay compound tires (Losi Pink) when I used acetone. My Losi red and silvers felt the same after using it. Since then, I just bake my tires off. I do that when my wife it going to be away for a little while!

I have used acetone to soak a set of hot bodies tires off (pink soft compound)
they didnt feel changed at all

I have baked 3 set of tires off and it seems like baking the tires off perminantly enlarges them ever so slightly.
they were just a little bigger than the bead diameter of the wheel even when cooled completely.

I will always use acetone to take my wheels off, i know several others who have done this with no ill effects

normally the use of acetone to remove the tire from the wheel is to re-use the wheel after the tires are no good.

if you are using this method to change foam inserts, try using an X-Acto Blade to to cut the tire off the wheel like alot of the pros do

Acetone is great for removing old rubber, glue & reusing the rim again .

This is just not 100% at all. Some tires are completely reusable after an acetone soak and some are not. Unfortunately - no tire manufacturers have come forward and tested their tires and provided their results. They all just say "don't do it - buy new tires."

I know from personal experience Proline soft and super soft, J Concepts Green and Panther Super soft seem to suffer no ill affects when exposed to acetone for 24-48 hour soaks. I have reused them with good results.

I also know from expeirience that Proline Clay MC compounds shrinks and hardens when exposed to acetone

Additionally, acetone will haze (make cloudy) lexan - so don't use it on RC bodies.

do not soak them, put them in a sealed container with acetone in the bottom, put some blocks in the bottom to sit your tires on. it is the fumes that will do the job not the liquid give them a day or two and off they come

Usually I cut worn tire and just re-use the rims but I did that with some blue barcodes on my Stadium truck. I left them there for a day, cleaned them with simple green and glue them back on my 22t wheels. I didn't notice any performance difference.

Using a X-knife to remove tire from the rim is the best method...

After skinning the tire off the rim ?

Soak rim in Acetone to remove glue & left over rubber .

Rim will become clean & like new after a 24hr soak ...

i know the schumacher green compound felt harder after being acetoned off. the rubber felt more brittle (probably not the right word but it will do). The schumacher yellow compound tyres dont seem to suffer the same affect though

+1 by far my favorite method. It may take longer but it saves both rim and tire. If the tire is trash I cut the tire, remove the foam, and toss the whole thing right in the acetone.
