On my reedy 17.5 if I just barely give it any throttle with the car on a stand it will make a weird grinding noise and the pinion will move slightly back and forth. When I say barely I mean a hair past neutral. Motor is extremely smooth elsewhere and performance is spot on. Is how it acts with barely any throttle normal? I've never really noticed it before as I have no reason to give it that little throttle.

Reedy 17.5 max timing, 3.9 fdr with fan comes off at 165 after 6.5-7 minutes. 180 is the highest the motor has seen. Less than 20 packs through it.
Orion r10 pro drrs at 9 blinky. I've tried two different sensor wires and have re calibrated the esc. Thanks.

1. Have you tried another motor on your ESC to rule out the ESC?
2. Since you have already switched sensor wires, it probably is not the wire. If it is not your ESC or your wire, then in MY experience, there is a good chance that it is the sensor board.

9 is too low. Try 30...

Compared to others at my track, I'm geared quite a bit lower. Most run FDR 3.8-4, I'm at FDR 4.35. Has anyone else noticed that this motor needs a lower gearing than most motors?

I keep going lower and lower each week and I am just getting faster. So yes. I am still playing with timing. On the bench I found that as I went up in timing no load other than the wheels and transmission once I got about 30 degrees it peaked then started to drop off the more I went up. This of course is by the sound and nothing more. I am going to look into a chassis dyno (DIY) at some point to be better at testing different gearing and timing settings just to get some data behind my setting changes

Anyone know where I can find a replacement end bell (motot mount end of the case) for a reedy 540 motor? Thanks
