Reedy 17.5 max timing, 3.9 fdr with fan comes off at 165 after 6.5-7 minutes. 180 is the highest the motor has seen. Less than 20 packs through it.
Orion r10 pro drrs at 9 blinky. I've tried two different sensor wires and have re calibrated the esc. Thanks.
I have had 2 motors (one Reedy and one Trin) do that grinding sound that you described. One was a bad sensor BOARD. (Trin) and the other was a bad ESC.
1. Have you tried another motor on your ESC to rule out the ESC?
2. Since you have already switched sensor wires, it probably is not the wire. If it is not your ESC or your wire, then in MY experience, there is a good chance that it is the sensor board.

I would be a little more concerned with the pinion moving back and forth... How much fore/aft play does the rotor have inside the stator? Have you ever pulled the motor apart, or is it box stock?

Your neutral width is too low. Bump it up a few and I bet it goes away.

I've tried 9% neutral width same issue. I don't recall my schurr speed doing this so I guess it is the sensor board. At least that's $12.

Ordered another motor and a sensor board. No harm in having a spare 17.5 reedy

It runs fine boosted. No problem at all.

The r10 has 6,9 and 11. I've always run 6 with every car and motor combo.

I found for me that 49 degrees of timing and gear to temp works best. I ended up at 96/49 which is a 3.91 which worked best for me.

I'm wondering what's a good starting point for boosted settings and gearing for 17.5 TC?
I'm currently running blinky, 48 timing, FDR 4.

What should the FDR be for a 5.5T with no timing?

I've also found that this motor, the 17.5T, likes a lot of timing. I tried gearing up with lower timing, 36-40, and just didn't have any torque. The first time I felt like this motor woke up was when I geared down and turned up the timing. I was up to 46 at my last race. I think it'll probably be better at 48-49.
Compared to others at my track, I'm geared quite a bit lower. Most run FDR 3.8-4, I'm at FDR 4.35. Has anyone else noticed that this motor needs a lower gearing than most motors?

I keep going lower and lower each week and I am just getting faster. So yes. I am still playing with timing. On the bench I found that as I went up in timing no load other than the wheels and transmission once I got about 30 degrees it peaked then started to drop off the more I went up. This of course is by the sound and nothing more. I am going to look into a chassis dyno (DIY) at some point to be better at testing different gearing and timing settings just to get some data behind my setting changes

I've now found that gearing up and turning up timing works about the same power wise as gearing down and lowering the timing.

Anyone know where I can find a replacement end bell (motot mount end of the case) for a reedy 540 motor? Thanks
