For those who have experience with the Deluxe On-Road model (apologize this is the off-road forum), does the bulb actually touch the top of an engine? How far does the unit fit over the heat sink of an engine (for example a Nova PT 1/8 on road)? Does it fit beyond the heat sink and onto the crack case? Does you have to apply pressure to put it on an engine or is it a drop fit?
I just received mine (not yet open the package) and don't want to squash the bulb.
Many thanks.

Hi Sabenza,
The onroad casing should sit over the head of the engine and rest on the pipe / carb inlet so covers a small part of the crank case. As this is a universal casing for onroad engines it will differ slightly between engines where it sits but this doesn’t make a noticeable difference in the operation. It will rest in place on its own and won’t require you to push or hold it in place.
I think once you try the unit it will all become clear. Your unit should come with instructions, if for some reason it doesnt have any let me know and I can email you an electronic version.
Hope that helps

Sorry about that Sabenza, if you look on my Sure-Start forum the instruction manual is availble in the Post-Sales Help & Advice section.

I have three Deluxe Sure-Start available for a special Christmas price of $117 each posted to the US or 70 euro if you are in Europe. These are brand new unused and left over from a distributor order.
The Deluxe model has inbuilt temp cutoff and two temperature settings selectable from the switch.
Colours available are Black, black/Orange all with the new V2 anodized casing.

Hello
I purchased a on road deluxe heater of a guy who is packing in racing, what a great piece of kit this is, what 11.1 lipo would you recommend for this heater ? would one battery be enough to last a full days racing ?, I am done hauling a 12v battery around so lipo really is the only option for me.
Thanks.

Hi James,
You dont need to spend fortunes on a lipo as a very low C rating is fine. Go for a 3 cell lipo 11.1v but you will need a 5000 mah battery to get a reasonable amount of preheating time. There are perfectly good lipo's for around £20 on ebay which will do the job just fine.

Hello Russ,
Not the best picture but you can see the inside of the unit.
As for distribution in the US there isn’t currently any shops who stock the unit, the reason for this is because of the exchange rate, its terrible when exporting from the UK to the US and it works out very expensive. Around $140 shipped for the Deluxe version I think the last time I checked.. They can of course be ordered direct and I have many US customers who have purchased direct from my website.
Thanks
John

Thanks Russ,
It doesn’t show very well in the photo but where the reflective layer meets the alloy there is a ridge and this is where the unit sits on the engine head. The old type of casing used to sit on the exhaust outlet and carb inlet but the V2 casing actually sits on top of the engine which means a much more consistent fit with different types of engines and it means the bulb sits closer to the head
If you decide to just let me know or order via my website.
Thanks again
John

With winter approaching, those RC engines will be feeling a little cold... So for a limited time we've reduced the price of the red/black RC Sure-Start preheater.

Evening All...
Had a few questions if RC Sure-Start is still going and I'm happy to say that we are and apologies if we've been a tad quiet.
As some of you may know, I took over RC Sure-Start from John last year and have been working with local suppliers to help manufacture the units and I'm pleased that we have these made and ready to purchase.
To keep things simple and cost effective we are now offering the units at £50 (GBP) + postage in our most popular colours (Black and red)
Both are made with the temperature control that will keep your engine at it's optimum temperature while waiting for your heat/final or when breaking in your new engine.
Our website is currently in the process of getting updated but you can still order online and eBay at or PM me for the links if you are interested in purchasing a unit.
Please let me know if you have any questions and will be happy to help.

My rc sure start works but the engine does not really get above 35 deg c. The light comes on but then switches off after half minute ?? Any ideas ?
Cheers
