I'm sure I can get it tuned. Logically thinking the setup should be pretty much the same for vta and usgt with the biggest differences in the class being speed and braking points. It would make sense that the biggest change is driving style. Since logic doesn't always apply in rc I was just looking for some tips to make the change to usgt as smooth as possible.

I know that usgt isn't as big as vta but this thread really shouldn't be found on page 5. Lets try to make it a little more active so we can try to generate more interest in the class.

USGT is actually bigger at our track than VTA. As I understand it, that happened with the switch from 21.5 to 25.5 happened in VTA. Driver's wanted a little more speed.

Of course, its all subjective based upon what drivers show up to race what class! I like the both because of the scale look of both classes.

What's the difference between VTA and USGT? Where I race they call it RCGT.

VTA, 25.5, vintage wheels and tires, old school trans am bodies only, non adjustable ESC only

USGT, 21.5, Spoked wheel and treaded tire or solaris wheel and tire in some cases, any gt class based body, ROAR spec esc in blinky.

Those are the major differences.

We are just starting our usgt program to compliment vta. We will have as many as 30 vta cars show up for the point series races and 10-15 for a regular club race. Myself and some other racers are getting really excited about moving from vta to usgt. It should be a lot of fun. Ideally I would like to run both but we needed to make room for more vta racers. So far it looks like we have 5 regulars that want to make the switch with a few more on the fence.

That's it in a nutshell.

Most places that run RCGT instead of USGT run it as a 17.5 class.

No no no no noooooooo....... You don't MOVE from VTA to USGT. You ADD a USGT car to go with your VTA ride. Hasnt' Battman taught you anything?

Im looking at firing up the Battlefield Road Course. Are you guys interested in some VTA and USGT in LaFayette?

Just copy any big race setup from your car manufacturers website. If anything soften the car a little since those big races are on way higher traction then regular club dates.

I want to do both but the vta class is so competitive and fast that is is scaring off the new guys from racing with us. We need those new racers to come out so some of us are going usgt to open up the field.

I'm definitely looking forward to racing with you guys again. Its a 3+ your drive so we won't be there every weekend but we will come out a few times this season. As long as gas isn't $7a gallon.

I have my chassis pretty hooked up for vta. I think that setup will be fine but I was just wondering if any other vta racers converted to usgt and what problems they had.

Having raced both locally, with the same car, I can tell you that a good set-up is very different between the two. YMMV, but I couldn't just slap VTA tires and shell on my GT chassis and go out there and make fast laps, and vice versa. I have aquired two chassis in order to run both classes. That is just my experience... I find the set up (camber, spring rates, ect) to be very different (to get the car to run at the front of the pack) in each class.

Thank you. I will be sure to fully document my vta setup so I can throw full bore into the usgt setup. I don't mind the tuning at all. Thanks for the heads up so I know what to look for.

I would love to do two chassis. If usgt grows at our track then I will look at a second car.

my 17.5 TC, 17.5 RCGT, 21.5 USGT, and 25.5 USVTA cars all have the same setup other than FDR and ride height...

basic, a good rubber tyre setup...is a good rubber tire setup...

change your tires, body, and ride height and try it...then tweek if you see a need

thats might just be me, but I set my cars up the same to make it easy for me to drive when running 2-3 classes

same setup on these cars, 2 classes

TC3's
TC5's
TC6's

Darkside I'm curious to learn here, so if you don't change your shock oil, springs, camber, caster, roll bars etc between the two classes then specifically why would I have to change my ride height to move from VTA to USGT with the same car?

What is your VTA ride height and what is your USGT ride height?

I can only guess that with the higher speeds of the GT class that you would get more chassis roll (with your same VTA suspension setup) thus need a taller ride height to keep from dragging the chassis in the corners. Does that sound right?

Thanks for your input as I would like to run my VTA car in USGT someday too.

If i remember correctly, i ran a stiffer setup (springs) on my RCGT chassis when i switched it from VTA. We used the HPI Pro X-Pattern tires and they had more grip than the D-Compound VTA tires.

You might find the wing on the back of your USGT body will change some of your handling characteristics as well.
