Default transponder off lipo

can you plug a transponder into the battery?

Depends on what battery voltage and which model transponder. I'm making an assumption that you are running the AMB transponder. If you are running 2S LiPo, you should be fine.

u cant plug it directly right into the battery u have to plug it in one of the extra channels on your receiver

Technically, you are correct. There is no plug for it. However, if you put together a harness to accommodate this you can run it off the battery voltage.
