Sidewinder v2 Heat issues
#1
I recently bought a Sidewinder v2 w/ 6900 kv 1406 series motors and decided to try it in my 2wd buggy (crazy overkill, I know). I used my Castle Link to tame everything down (no timing, 70% max power output, etc) and dropped the pinion to a size that required a microscope to put on so the gearing was VERY safe. I ran it on the track (indoor clay) and the power was actually quite managable. Fortunately, I'm paranoid and pulled it over after 6 laps. The motor hadn't broken 100 F, but the ESC was already at 165...about 1 1/2 minutes of driving.
No wiring muddled up by me, Dean's connectors 5000 mah lipo. So, really, should this combo ONLY be used for straight line drag racing? Any other thoughts besides I was crazy to try it in the first place

I almost wonder if turning it all down and using less throttle could increase resistence and thereby generate more heat? (grasping at straws)

I saw that it is made for primarily speed runs, but thought it would be a good tool for working on improved throttle control on my buggy. I imagine the increased variation in throttle work could be the culprit. I don't plan to race with the combo, was just playing. But I am curious.

If you bought new maybe send it back to Castle. I had a Sidewinder and no matter what it was crazy hot. ESC temped/thermaled on 3s in a few seconds. And on 2s it was hittin 190 fast. I thought they where junk! First Sidewinder. Always had Mamba Max, MMP, etc. Returned it and they replaced it. MUCH cooler and no issues after that.
