The epoxy creates a smooth "ramp" for the air/fuel mixture to flow on. The benefits are not huge but they are there. Thus why a lot of full modded and top of the line engines have it. Where every bit of efficiency and power is wanted.

Ive noted that even the best stock engines have abrupt edges on the intakes of the front crank port that need dremel knifing work to improve power
