Used a Tamiya 96T (.4 Tamiya) spur (from my TRF101) on my TRF418. No issues with a regular 64 pitch pinion. Another local racer did the same and had no issues.

Depends what you want. 64 pitch is silent like a shy ghost such is the mesh. I take it that is a sign of how efficient it can be. A metric/imperial mesh will never be as silent hence I conclude something is not quite as perfect as it should be. Either way, I don't sell pinions or gears.
