Part of the reason Durango brought out the machined gears was due to a change to a different (cheaper) set of std gears, the ones that came in the early kits in '09 were much better then the later ones, mine still has the original ones in it today.

The early crown gears had little blocks on that locked into the diff moulding.

As for XRAY, I've not heard anything about anyone having problems with the steel gears here in the UK on high grip Astro tracks, mine are still waiting to be fitted before I find out for myself.
