Honestly Not really, The 2 sets you see in my pics are obviously both ways it can be done, From the Outside You would pre drill a hole and apply Glue to the Screw which in my experience from Excessively ballooning the tires Over and Over again I Never Once lost a Spike. The Screws from the Inside would of coarse never go anywhere and dont require glue.
+1 to samnelso and the Spikes not lasting long, use a Reasonably beefy screw if your doing 1/8 stuff, 1/10 I could see getting away with a little smaller hardware.
