I see any where from large round and short to tall and narrow and some with fancy side cuts in the head. Most engines these days the stock heads do a fine job of cooling. The cuts on the side of the head are for looks, The size, fin count, and flow thru are a factor as well as billet are more efficeint than cast. But I would not worry about upgrading a cooling head on a modern engine in my opinion.
