There are two types of lifes available - original life by a123 (which they patented) and the newer ones I see referred to as 'prismatic' type life that are apparently not patented since so many seem to be making them.
I use the 2300mah type a123s as a power source for running some of my rcs where I have room for them. That's the main drawback to the a123 type - their size and weight. They seem to take a lot of abuse and not really care. The prismatics are lighter and smaller in size, but seem more sensitive as far as charging at least. Many brands recommend breaking them in and they have a rep for puffing without a lot of warning from what I've read. I have a 2100mah 2S Hobbico prismatic type life I use as a rcvr batt though and its been trouble free so far.
I use a 3PK (and 3PJS) radio and both are run with a 3000mah 3S lipo. Amain sells lipos that will fit the 3PK radio. I wouldn't go back to batteries, charge lasts much longer and teh radio weighs noticeably less.
