The easiest (and non permanent) solution is building a dummy plug that only connects the negative and signal wires.
Such as this one:
I bent it in a 90º shape, so it fits right under the cover and nothing gets in the way. 'Cept for the aux channel, but isn't something most of us uses daily. Transponder goes in an Y wire with the BEC lol. That is, if it uses external power at all.
The center pin was pulled from the array before being soldered, so the center wire is unconnected. It was then wrapped in heatshrink for obvious reasons.
