I would not be as concerned about upgrades in the beginning. The Radio provides a lot of tuning options so it would be a good idea. I use that radio. Getting used to racing and controlling you set-up should be your first focus. I would recommend the FT shocks at some point to help with tuning. The RTR comes with a very good starting point. As you improve I would recommend moving to a Stock SCT class with a 17.5 motor.
