Really depends on the motor and how much timing you are running on the endbell
Use gearchart.com to work out your preferrred combination of spur and pinion.
While on this, is there any benefit to using a larger spur and smaller pinion to obtain the same gear ratio? Or vice versa
We asked Jim Deiter that last year at the birds and it was a resounding 'no', there is no mechanical benefit to any combination resulting in the same ratio... It was explained that the only benefit of different spur/pinion combinations resulting in the same ratio seems to be where the motor ends up on the chassis , as far as the balance or feel of the car goes... You figure out the FDR you want and choose the combo to achieve the placement of the motor your after.. hope his answer helps...
