When I gently applied throttle it would work, but would have the same problems again when I hit the gas. Upon closer inspection with the problem, it appeared that the entire truck was shutting down including the receiver and servo so I narrowed it down to a BEC problem. It seemed no one had an answer for it, they just posted to turn down the timing and punch on the forums so I'm posting my solution.
A CC external BEC fixed it up perfect and I am able to run all the timing and punch that I want.
tl/dr
fixed with CC BEC
I forgot to post up my findings too, CC BEC fixed mine as well. I run throttle punch on level 5 as well as timing. Works great now and the cc bec only weighs 1/2 oz
