practice with an old arm. do not try cutting your best motor till you feel you understand the lathe. see if anyone at your track will help you get started. motor speed is important also.
i always use a washer on the comm side. when cutting i put slight pressure on the opposite side. use a little oil on the v-block also.
my final cut i use a small drop oh WD40. i like it better than the marker.
