he just said to not worry about the heat of the motor when it comes off the track, but rather just the colour of the comm and as long as its normal... your fine....
could you expand on this at all??? or is it correct

Yes .."SOME" 23T motors can stand prolonged heat...due to the magnets in them...Basically most of the ECHO Based Motors and a few Atlas ones... they are the ones with the 4mm core rotors also...but I would say if the motor gets above 90deg cels. it`s way to hot and there will be a noticeable power drop...
as far as gearing goes with thesemotors.. you can gear them buy laptime and temp.... 75-85deg is were I run mine at
..
but take some care when these things get hot!!
I have seen some melt endbells..when over geared
